Dream a Little… Ambition

Being a “stay-at-home mom” is a funny thing.  I don’t really think of it that way.  But it’s the only way I can tell people what I do, or what I’ve been doing.  I haven’t had a regular job in a year, and I’m not entirely sad about that.  However, I am constantly trying to work other angles and get more writing work to make some extra money.

Aside from writing, I’m always finding new ideas of things I could be doing – things that I’m probably good at, but just never really gave a shot to.  Among those things are…

Independent Customer Service Consultant.  In the last week, I have dealt with a handful of companies with their various 800-numbers and customer service lines only to find that most of the customer service, and even common sense, is seriously lacking.  I should hire myself out to companies who need to revamp their customer service.  There’s so many things people do wrong in customer service, and maybe it’s because they just don’t know.  But I’ve been in customer service long enough to be an expert by my own definition.  If you know anyone who could use a consultant, I’d be happy to help.

Personal Assistant.  Let’s face it.  I do this all the time, all day, every day as it is.  Might as well get paid for it, right?  Between taking care of the Boy and being domestic, the laundry list of things that needs to get done for Hubs is something of a priority.  Whether it’s keeping his work schedule or balancing the books, making appointments, or sending in audition materials, I’m on top of it all.  I think I need a calendar just to remember my calendar.

Voice Coach/Teacher.  This one is fairly recent.  I’ve been toying with the idea of teaching piano to 4-5 year old kids.  Hubs seems to think that if I can learn the books for that age level, I should be able to teach them.  But this epiphany came to me while dealing with a friend’s kid who has a choral audition coming up.  I’ve both been there and done that, and while I have lots to learn, I think I could coach for auditions and everyday vocal training.

And then, of course, there’s more writing I could be doing.

I like having ambitions.  I like being excited about something I could do.  I just need to pick something, or a handful of somethings, and follow through.

What are some of your ambitions or dreams?
